Frequently Asked Questions - Indianola Middle School 1. What will I be doing there? At IMS, each teacher ultimately decides how to use his/her tutor, but you will always be working directly with the children. You may be working one-on-one with a student who is struggling or who has fallen behind, you may lead a group in a project, or you may help lead the entire class. If you happen to tutor during a test period, you may simply be helping the teacher look for cheaters. For the most part, however, our tutors spend time helping those children whom are still struggling to read. If you ever feel your time is not being used effectively, please contact someone on the leadership team. You are there to help the students, not grade papers or sit in the corner. 2. How do I sign up? To tutor at IMS, you must attend an information session. These are held at the beginning of each quarter; check the website for the dates and times. At the information sessions, you will receive a username and PAC. After you login, click on Choose Tutoring Time under Indianola Middle School, and then choose the current quarter. From there, it is easiest to pick a day when you think you may like to tutor, and search only by that day. If you are too specific about times, teachers, subjects, nothing may come up. But if you look at everything that is available on a certain day, you can pick from the available choices which subject or time you would like best. 3. How do I get there? IMS is located at 19th Ave and 4th Street. It is about a 20 minute walk from campus, or you can take the East Residential Cabs Route to get there. Click here for a CABS schedule 4. What should I wear when I go to tutor? You do not need to dress up, however please do not go in pajamas. We usually recommend students wear what they would normally wear to class. Jeans are perfectly acceptable. Ladies, please do not wear anything too low-cut or revealing. 5. Who do I contact if I cannot come to a tutoring time slot? If you know in advance you will not be able to make it on a certain week, please let your teacher know during the previous week. Maybe you will be able to arrange a different time that would work for you. Also, please email the leadership team if you have switched times, since she will be recording your attendance. If something unexpected happens or you are not feeling well, please simply email the leadership team and we will try to contact your teacher. Because teachers are so busy, they often do not have time to check their email during the day, but we will let them know you will not be coming. You may have to explain to them again during your next time slot why you were not there. 6. Do I have to tutor during exam week? No, tutoring is optional during exam week. If you have extra time, or need a break from studying, please feel free. However, it is not required. Frequently Asked Questions - Hilliard CARES 1. Do I have to tutor every Saturday?
