Hilliard CARES
Register to participate in Hilliard CARES Hilliard CARES (Community Academic Review and Enrichment Saturdays) is a partnership with the Hilliard City Schools in which Adopt-A-School's volunteers tutor kindergarten through fifth grade students wanting extra help on Saturday mornings. Almost every Saturday morning during the academic year, a group of at least 25 of our volunteers go to Hilliard's Alton Darby Elementary School to tutor over 80 kids each week. The children come from the thirteen elementary schools in the district. Volunteers work with one to three children at a time, helping them with their homework and reinforcing skills with supplementary assignments. The focus of this program is typically on reading or math. Tutors and students work on an academic subject for one hour and play an educational game for the last thirty minutes. This program takes place on Saturday mornings from 8:15am to 10:00am, allowing volunteers a full day to do whatever after volunteering. For maximum convenience, tutors in this program select which Saturday mornings to volunteer. Hilliard CARES coordinators are on-site each week to assist tutors and answer any questions. Due to the distance, Adopt-A-School does provide transportation to and from this site for tutors on CABS buses. The transportation has pick-up and drop-off locations from all three dormitory areas, and leaves from the first stop at 7:45am. Volunteers arrive back to campus by 10:45am. How to Participate at Hilliard CARES Please submit your e-mail address in the "Join the AAS mailing list" box on the left-hand column of the page to receive notification of these events and registration instructions. Testimonial AAS tutors usually receive a high level of emotional satisfaction for the time they donate to the Hilliard CARES program. Read the speech one of our tutors gave before the Hilliard Board of Education about our program. AAS Groups Hilliard CARES partners with other student organizations on Ohio State's campus looking for service projects.
